I fed my super well 17 year old cat applaws after she went off her frontier pets. She has always eaten wellness core dry food. She started losing weight, became noticeably thin. It was high protein, not much else and supplemental only, so i then tried applaws vitality wet food. She began throwing up. It took me about a month or two to put two and two together. It wasnt until she ate it and literally went straight outside and threw up to realise these problems were all due to the food, built up over several months. Be very careful with applaws and applaws vitality in case your cat similarly reacts. I have now caved and put her on ziwi peak and zealandia wet food and added breakfast, she’s gained back 200g in 2 weeks, stopped vomiting and looks much better. I was hesitant due to cost but 5 for 180g tin equals same as vitality and at least she keeps it down.. vet said she’s in great health but wants to talk about moving to hills or royal canin renal diet as creatinine low to prevent renal disease.. never feeding my pets that rubbish thanks to your reviews. Dogs doing well on lyka too, expensive but so easy amd they like it. Appreciate your reviews and teaching us what to look for in ingredient lists. Going to research best low phosphorus wet cat foods now.

My older FIV+ rescue cat has a hat full of medical issues including stage 2 kidney disease so I was pleased to hear that the phosphorous in the Tuna Fillet is 0.69% DMB; for the chicken pate it is 0.72% & the Tuna & Mackeral Pate it is 7.5%. In an effort to keep Gandalf at Stage 2 he has recently started on a binder twice daily. I am now feeding him the Vitality pate as part of a rotation with some other lower phosphorous & prescription wet foods. As Gandalf has no teeth, the pate mixed with water is easy for him to eat & I will be interested to see the results of his next blood work due in January next year. The pate is sometimes available in Woolworths & not to be confused with the “in broth” range as I don’t know the phosphorus % for those. Applaws now not providing further information. I would be so grateful if you would revisit the Applaws review to incorporate the new range.

My cats love both wet and dry Applaws food. Can’t buy in shops or on line either. Some website reporting the company are having issues with all varieties. Reporting some nasty medical concerns with cats. Not sure if this also relates to their dog food. Have you heard anything. No response from my email to the company. Thanks

Hi Tracy, I’m not sure if the cat food range has been phased out or just low supply. Applaws dry dog food is still available.

This is out of stock everywhere,I haven’t seen the chicken one available for over a year,I’m in Perth. My cats only eat this and are not fond of any wet food really they eat a 1/4 of a tin of fancy feast but really only one eats the most. Unlike my last cat who lived to 22 and ate everything these two don’t eat anything else, no titbits, chicken nothing no matter what I try just biscuits Applaws. I’m lucky that they drink a lot of water from their fountain ironically Unlike my old girl. Have you any idea why this is out of stock? I have emailed Applaws and I’m waiting on a response. I know they should have variety but they won’t eat anything except for the odd fly believe me I have tried they are indoor cats.

my cat has Ibs and after 2 years on Royal Canin Hypo-allergenic dry food has not improved Has blood in stools. Won’t eat it or Hills I b tinned food Any recommendations please. Gave him chicken Applaws last night which he devoured. Is it safe to give him tin daily plus Hills IB dry food and a chicken neck.

It really is the opposite. My cat had some renal issues, so we changed to 90% wet food. We only give him some special kibbles in the evenings. I also add extra water to the wet food to insure the good amount of water.
Generally I would add 2 teaspoonful hot water to a heaped teaspoonful of wet food and try to make the sauce more saucy or to get the jelly parts to melt into sauce, and would give it to our cat lukewarm (as it is the fresh kill)
His output really improved, as well as his mood and activity level.
I can highly recommend wet diet to every cat.
You can find plenty good info on the internet, but please make sure they’re from reliable sources 🙂
