Hi David, just read your review of Big Dog Patties and I was curious after reading such a glowing review that it only gets 8.7

Could you enlighten me please

Thankyou Linda

DO NOT buy this food any more. My dog literally eats anything, and even he turns his nose up at this now. Would have to be really bad for that to happen. No notice given by the company and no response to my emails. Disgusting!

Hi YG, it looks like it’s been approved – https://www.apog.com.au/recall-issue-log/big-dog/

Is Proudi an option?

Other than that, Prime100?

Hi David, I think apog site is biased. I put that there were hard thin plastic pieces in food and big dog said it’s stickers from apple pulps and they are edible and harmless etc. but somehow apog didn’t approve my submission.
And I found more plastic, thin but hard and not digestible, in Kanga used by 2/1/2028. And sadly I can’t give Petzyo to my dog. They are not single protein food. Thank you

Hi YG,

Would you be able to add a report (anonymous if you like) to the APOG page for Big Dog? There aren’t any existing reports, but a few others have mentioned similar issues to me – https://www.apog.com.au/recall-issue-log/big-dog/

I could recommend the Petzyo BARF patties. They were only released fairly recently, but feedback seems good and I found them decent quality. There’s a coupon code on the Petzyo review as well – https://www.petfoodjudge.com/petzyo-dog-food-review/

Wow, what a fab and varied diet!

Yes, I think most find a dog will opt for a BARF food like Big Dog before anything else. Instinct! The pet food industry and veterinarians of this world tell us expensive kibble brands are what we must feed for the health of our carnivorous pets, but natural instinct knows best!

I had been including Big Dog in my feeding regime for a while, but confess I hadn’t checked the rating here. I am very glad to see it rates very well. I include this food for my Papillon and Great Dane, along with Eureka, Lyka, Lifewise and SPD. My dogs LOVE it and normally eat the Big Dog first!
I think Big Dog offers a fantastic product at a very reasonable price and very conveniently packaged. I will certainly continue feeding it.

I reported the company. But previously they denied any claims. So I don’t know the outcome.
Also, it seems to be watered down to make more heavier without meat. Before there was hardly any blood came out when you put on top of slow feeder bowl. Now just very bloody and no volume.
I had to add more food and that costs more.
Is there any other barf which is good single protein?

There was broccoli in Kanga before but no more. Now texture is like pate and pale colour, not meat thickness.
I think it’s still best in the market but very disappointing.

Hi Ingrid, the wording used on the Big Dog website is “At Big Dog we always use the highest quality human grade food sources from American farms (organic where possible) and local farms.”

It gets tricky with the term “human grade”, as once a human grade ingredients hits a pet food facility it can no longer be classed human grade. That said, it is far better to have ingredients sourced from human grade rather than pet grade sources.
