“Our Doctor B’s BARF products will contain American ingredients sourced from the human food supply chain.”

This doesn’t mean all ingredients, only some – and some could mean very little. Meat ingredients in pet foods often come through the human grade supply chain, which could be interpreted as all the stuff from that supply chain which couldn’t be used for the human food supply chain.

“The American Meats included in our range has been sourced from animals who have been processed in a human grade facility prior to being supplied to us.”

Again, if we read between the lines, this doesn’t mean the meat ingredients are “human grade”, it means the meat was originally processed – such as in an abattoir – but became pet grade after leaving that facility.

Once becoming pet grade, it no longer adheres to human grade standards. This can mean preservatives can be added which are illegal in the human supply chain, and undergo processing with looser hygiene standards. Going back to what I said earlier that only some and not all came from a human grade supply chain can also mean that meat is blended with pet grade meats, fallen stock, and other poor quality ingredients.

So to summarise, those statements are worded to sound positive to you – and were clearly seen as positives – when the reality is those statements are relatively meaningless.
