Hi Ben, have you considered feeding raw meats, organs, or bones (like chicken necks or wings) as a way to keep costs down? Sometimes this works very well, especially if you can pick up reduced meats at the supermarket, and in some cases it’s likely healthier than some cat foods – just be careful of moderation as cats do need a range of nutrients.

Sadly, the wet food seemed to be one of the best cheap options for my cats. It would go on special for around $1.50-1.70 a can (RRP $2.20 a can which was a bit steep really).

I have 5 cats and it is very expensive to feed them wet food. I feed them Meals For Meows dry food but one of the cats has a sensitive stomach, and has thrown up Applaws, Meals For Meows (but usually tolerates it), Nood and several others I have tried. Sadly the Farmers Market kibble was one of the ones she would never throw up.

Now back to looking for a decent wet food for them. I would love to feed raw or cooked human grade mince, but when adding the cost of Raw Meow supplement on top, it makes it very expensive. I can’t feed one of them raw either as she has FIV.

I feel terrible feeding them Whiskas, Fussy Cat or Aldi wet food tins also because the ingredients look crap and my sensitive stomach cat has already thrown up from a Whiskas experience.

I wish Ziwipeak and Feline Natural were cheaper. Or came in a large 400g tin for a slightly cheaper price per gram, like the dog versions do.

My cat likes it but eats the freeze dried bits and leaves the rest 🙂

Just as with human food you get what you pay for…the better quality dog food is more expensive.
I’m constantly surprised that this is just not obvious to everyone!
Fillers and poorer quality ingredients lead to guess what? Cheaper products.
I’m also constantly surprised how we can accept doctors telling humans that over processed diets and products, that are usually cheaper, are bad for our health but we can’t accept this fact about pets.
There are ways to give your pets healthy whole foods on a budget. There is multiple advice on how to this on this website and through some very simple old fashioned research.

On the contrary, my reviews of vet endorsed pet foods manufactured by Mars and Colgate-Palmolive are rather negative based on the amount of non-carnivore ingredients for carnivorous animals.

What a weird review. I can’t tell if it’s positive or negative.

My cats are exactly the same. They love Farmer’s Market more than any other kibble I’ve ever given them
