I have a 10 yr Bichon with delicate gut. Used to cook his food and give him raw steak. As he got older he started getting really unwell from it. He has settled on My Dog loaf with Hills Science for Senior small dogs, plus the odd cooked egg and a small piece of cheese when we have lunch. I know, My Dog is not my first choice, but he loves it and digestion wise has never been better. Perfect weight, energetic, and has surprised his vet with his beautiful coat and clear eyes, no more brown tear stains or brown around mouth. We can’t figure it out, I have had a lot of experience with dogs in a shelter situations, pure breeds and mixed, but, it is what it is. And most importantly, firm stools now and no vomiting. He never farts.

Some time last year they seem to have changed the recipe at least once. It’s always had “Meat (Chicken, Pork, Beef)” as the first ingredient which was laughable when the packaging says Chicken, as well as rice, but a while back I’m certain whole grain wheat snuck into the ingredient list, and more recently Soybean meal. A few months ago our dog started getting more fussy with it, I figured it was a bad batch or improperly stored. I noticed some were “pinker” than the typical light brown, or much firmer. Lately he’d flat-out refuse or only eat if very hungry and often leave some in the bowl where he’d normally lick the bowl clean. I noticed the smell was also different. Enough was enough since Colesworth don’t seem to carry anything reasonably nutritional for dog food. (Farmer’s Pride seemed fine, and recommended by friends, but has a strong, salty smell, and he won’t touch it.) So we’re preparing our own food with chicken, hearts, a small bit of rice, sweet potato, egg, and a couple blueberries when in season. It’s terrific to see him eager to eat again! Can’t trust what these companies actually put into the food.

Not once have I found a can that has 1.2kg in the can. I get 2 meals with 400 gms each then 3rd with 380 gms maximum.
I will NOT be buying these again

We had a high vet bill and an awful week, after feeding the young puppy with Natures Gift!
The vet said she may not live, given she was diarrhoeaing and not holding down food after that.
The company rang about our complaint and said they will pass our concerns to the development team. And that she would call back to check in on the puppy’s welfare. She never did call back, and I guess they will not change.
Don’t buy Natures Gift!
Their website shows they use garlic in many other dog foods!
It is an ingredient slammed by all bar one website, and that one offers no technical evidence.
Our experience of almost losing a dog due to their ridiculous formula, means I can only pass on this warning!

My dog plus 2 other dogs i know begin farting bad after eating this, all night. None of them would eat their dinner, or breakfast the next morming (because they obviously felt sick). And 2 of them got bad diarrhea.
Then someone else told me their dog farts real bad if they eat it too

Hi Julie, it’s worth adding this info to the APOG log. There’s a couple of other reports for Nature’s Gift – https://www.apog.com.au/recall-issue-log/natures-gift/

Used the Natures Gift with Kangaroo
Dry food. We Usually feed high grade dry food without grain. Never seen such a negative impact on our dogs well being after using the Natures Gift dry food. She usually has a “stainless steel”
Gut however she developed slimey poo and changed from a highly charged energetic dog to being lethargic and generally unwell. She was also drinking far more water. She’s been off this food now 2 days and is already starting to recover her wellness. I have one unopened bag and half a used bag. Wish I could get my money back.
