My cats can’t eat fancy feast or fussy cat food (it gives them gastro issues). Dine is hit and miss, with them having more of a tolerance for ocean fish,Tuna Mornay and the Turkey. Sometimes I’ve noticed a smell after purchasing the Dine food on special (maybe the shipment was sat in the sun too long who knows) and they turn their nose up completely. They don’t like Nood, Applaws or Kiwi wet food either!!!! And even though it’s been around forever, I refuse to feed them Whiskers. Ironically, Purina One is the only wet and dry food they all (x3) love, along with Ultimates (no adverse reactions). I’m currently trialing another dry as it has a great mix of raw and kibble, first night went well (no ill effects at all). However it is expensive. On a budget I try to do what’s best for my cats but I was once advised that if the first ingredient on a packet of pet food was meat (instead of a cereal) then it should be ok. In the grand scheme of things, for a person with three cats, $17 for a box of 12 wet (doesn’t go far with three cats) and $20 for a bag of supplemental kibble isn’t that cheap considering there are much cheaper brands out there. So I’m surprised with the Purina review. Seeing the ‘makes some terrible food’ comment concerns me!

In reply to Carly. Well you could always feed your carnivorous cat a raw meat, organs, and bones diet rather than a kibble made of inappropriate ingredients for them...

Ok so what I have been told by some very wise cat people is you want to put the dollars more on the dry food then the wet as the wet is just there for the water content over the nutritional values in my self a owner of 3 cats 2 pure bred rag dolls and a bittsa and we buy fancy feast wet but then pay out more for the dry so we have just gone over to leaps and bounds as it’s a grain free food and like you on a pension

You should give a logical analysis to back up your claim on that first sentence you wrote: “Purina (owned by Nestle) make some terrible cat foods.”

In reply to Ducie Hood. Kibble is too small in size for adult cats... they tend to just swallow rather than chew.. not good for digestion.. hilarious considering I brought Urinary Care.

Wow is there a cat food that isn’t a thousand dollars a bag that you do like just going over your different reviews it seems that all the expensive cat foods that will break the bank are the ones you are plugging yet the less expensive quality ones your hating on take the bias out please

Hi there! Just saw your article while searching the web for information on problems with Purina One Urinary Tract dry cat food. We’ve been feeding our three cats Purina One sparingly between IAMS, which they love. I picked up a bag of the One Urinary food because I had a $5 coupon for it. Started them up on it after finishing the last bag of IAMS and all three began vomiting the food after eating, and then continuing to spit up yellow goop (the food is yellow-colored, chicken flavor supposedly). One of the cats began begging us every meal for our “human” food and seemed to lose weight, which led to finally figuring out the problem. Thing is, they were raised on Purina and IAMS. They love the IAMS, but apparently the Purina doesn’t agree with them anymore. They do get wet food also and lots of water, so the only thing it could be is the One food. Ordered a bunch of IAMS today and will not touch Purina again.

Hi Bob, I think the best answer I can give is you can only do your best for him. Some cats live to a ripe old age on Purina. You can however add some fresh meats, organs, odd can of tuna etc, and I’m sure that will go a long way to keeping him happy and giving him some extra nutrition.

Cats may drink garden water (or rain water) because it may contain minerals, or maybe he just prefers it (there’s not a great deal of science in this area). Cats tend to seek out nutrients which they’re not getting, so it’s possibly a sign the Purina/Dreamies are lacking, or perhaps not.
